Kerry - Founder and Forest School Leader

Kerry’s inspiration for The Happy Homestead came from her interest in children’s mental health and well-being. Being outdoors is proven to boost children’s self-esteem and mindfulness. “As a child I spent most of my time climbing trees and playing with snails and frogs in the garden. I also went on hikes in the countryside, which is where my appreciation for nature comes from. I want to give children experiences and create cherished childhood memories”.

Kerry is also very conscientious of the environment and believes in role modelling simple ways to care for it with the children.

Outside of The Happy Homestead, Kerry enjoys spending time with her husband, two children and Jack Russell dog. She enjoys visiting National Trust houses and other places of historical interest and beauty.

Wayne- Co Founder and Ranger

Wayne has turned our empty field into a truly unique setting, which encompasses our shared vision. Wayne’s motivation for The Happy Homestead was to give his son and daughter the best outdoor education.

He has many more ideas to work on to continually improve the site and offer further opportunities for learning. One of Wayne’s other roles is to care for the animals at The Happy Homestead. “It is important that we give the animals the best care possible with the help of the children”.

Wayne has a keen interest in bush craft and outdoor skills. He enjoys going on country walks and hikes.

Danielle has her Level 4 in childcare and has 8 years experience of childcare.

Alice - Early Years Educator

Alice is currently studying for her BA in Childhood Studies and works with the babies and toddlers. “One thing that really stood out to me is how much the outdoors benefits children. I have found myself focusing on Forest School for the majority of my assignments as I find it fascinating.

I have always had a passion for childcare since leaving school, although it wasn't the path I first took. I have most recently been a voluntary Teaching Assistant at a school working with the younger children and I loved every minute of it.

I joined The Happy Homestead because I believe that the outdoor environment allows the children to develop self confidence, independence and self-esteem as well as tests physical limits and provides opportunity to get messy!”

Alice enjoys spending time with family, going away in our caravan and exploring new places. She is also a very creative person which is a fabulous attribute to have when working with children.

CJ - Early Years Practitioner

CJ is currently studying Level 3 Early Years Education at The Happy Homestead and works with the pre-schoolers.

Childcare has been my dream profession for as long as I can remember. I especially love working at the Homestead because the outdoor environment helps children to flourish. It doesn’t feel like work because we are always having fun.”

Outside of work CJ enjoys taking their dog on long walks and painting the places which make them happy.
